LANDON SHOOK as Brock drove them away from Routt County Outfitters and toward Cunningham’s house, where they could pick up Bear. “I’ve never been so upset in my life.”

“You held yourself together really well back there.” Brock patted his leg.

“We still need evidence, don’t we?”

“A bit of solid evidence would be good. If we were in Teller County, I think I could get a search warrant with what we have so far, but I don’t know the judges here in Routt. We could stop by Stewart Loring. He could probably tell us if it’s enough. Getting something from Parks and Wildlife will take longer, because it would be on the state level.”

“I don’t want to have to go out there tomorrow and shoot that mountain lion just to keep our cover.” Landon couldn’t dream of killing that magnificent cat only to get evidence for a case.

“I know. I’ll see what I can get worked out before then.” Brock took his hand from Landon’s leg as he turned the truck off the main street and headed toward Cunningham’s house. “Looks like it’s going to be a busy day.”

“When aren’t they?” Landon mumbled.
